With a spring in his step from the word go, Timberlake (Into Mischief) lived up to his famous name on Friday afternoon at Ellis Park when he broke his maiden impressively and attained 'TDN Rising Star' status.
With blinkers on and traversing seven furlongs over the dirt as the 5-4 favorite, Timberlake controlled the pace throughout and, while jockey Florent Geroux served as a passenger, increased his margin around the far turn. Cruising down the lane, the bay colt was geared down with less than a furlong left and won by 9 1/4 lengths over 8-1 shot West Saratoga (Exaggerator). This was the Brad Cox trainee's second start after finishing a well-beaten and puzzling sixth as the favorite in his debut at Ellis Park June 15.
Timberlake is Into Mischief's 39th 'Rising Star'. His Irish-bred dam is a half-sister to G2 Hardwicke S. and G2 King Edward VII S. hero Thomas Chippendale (Ire) (Dansili {GB}). They are out of MG1SP All My Loving (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), who is a full-sister to G1 Irish Oaks victress and GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf placegetter Yesterday (Ire). The winner's dam, who was stakes placed in England, is also responsible for a yearling colt by Army Mule and she foaled a filly by Known Agenda Apr. 21.
